Callington Primary School, established in 1858, is a Reception – Year 6 school situated in the Murraylands region, between Mt Barker and Murray Bridge. Historically a mining town, Callington is surrounded by historic buildings and sits on the banks of the Bremer River.

Callington Primary School typically supports around 70 students and their families, who live locally but also from the surrounding suburbs of Kanmantoo, Strathalbyn, Murray Bridge and anywhere in between. We currently have 4 classes across the school, 2 junior primary and 2 middle/upper primary. Our buildings are surrounded by green space, a large playground and a newly developed nature play and sandpit space for children to explore, be creative and connect with others.

The culture of our school is based on the Berry Street Education Model which prioritises building strong relationships, promoting student wellbeing, and enhancing engagement through a structured approach. It provides strategies to create a positive and supportive learning environment for all students and ensures they are known, nurtured and challenged to be the best versions of themselves. We pride ourselves on having collective responsibility for all students across the school and a teaching and learning program that is based on consistency and structure, informed by best practice and student data to meet the needs of our students.

Our staff are dedicated and invested in every single child. They provide learning programs that reflect care, energy and high expectations, where students are engaged, show progress and feel success in various ways. We also have a support team that are experienced, thoughtful and intentional in contributing to student success.
